How did the Maze Advocacy Project begin?
We are the Maze Advocacy Project and we provide an advocacy service to young people age 6-19 in Somerset and Cardiff who are in emotional or mental distress.
Our project started life as an idea between two organisations (Advocacy in Somerset and Tros Gynnal) who realised that young people in emotional or mental distress often don’t have many choices and options about where to get help and support, especially around knowing their rights and getting their views heard by the adults involved in their lives.
These two organisations worked together to get funding from the Big Lottery fund to set up Maze Advocacy and run it for three years in Somerset and Cardiff. While doing this they are writing a guide to inspire and support other people who want to set up similar projects in other parts of the UK.
