A day in the life of a Maze advocate
9am
Arrive at work
Check for phone messages, texts, e-mails and post
Put the kettle on!
Say ‘hi’ to the others in the project
9.30am
Ring young person back who has left a message asking me to ring today
Find out they are worried as they don’t really understand a letter their solicitor has sent them
Arrange to meet them at lunchtime to go through the letter together
10.30am
Visit a young person to help them find out information about local counselling services
12pm
Make some more telephone calls for young people
Prepare for a presentation to a staff meeting at a local school
12.45pm
Catch bus into town to meet young person for coffee.
1pm
Have coffee with young person and go through the letter from the solicitor
Agree to ring their solicitor for them to get more information
2.30pm
Go to meeting at the school.
4.30pm
Return to office and ring solicitor for young person
Talk to young person who is very anxious about their next CAMHS appointment
Arrange to meet tomorrow to talk through how we may be able to help
5pm
Leave office stopping on way home to buy nice things to eat for young people’s meeting tomorrow
